Another minister had defended the Prime Minister on coal block allocation, stating that the PM couldn’t be expected to read each page of a file before signing it. In 2012, a Union Minister had remarked on short-lived public memory and said that people would forget the coal scam just like they had forgotten the Bofors scam. Various incidents during the past few years highlight this. The incumbent government today has displayed signs of administrative arrogance, much like Dhana Nanda did during his reign. A scam-tainted government, rampant corruption and discontent citizens desiring change conjures up an image similar to the reign of the last Nanda Dynasty ruler. Fast-forward centuries later to election year 2014, and the current state and mood of the country are analogous to that of Dhana Nanda’s period.

He slowly grew unpopular and lost support of his subjects who felt exploited by him. Dhana Nanda – the ruler of one of the more prominent empires during this time (the Nanda Dynasty) was resented by his people for arrogant governance, hoarding wealth and being corrupt.

There was a time in India’s ancient past when disorder existed at all the local power centers and the country was ruled by small states and fragmented kingdoms.
